How to Apply for Postdoc Positions in Germany (two-day) [ONLINE-WORKSHOP]

Monday, 08 May 2023, 9:00-15:30
Online

The workshop will be held in English and run for two days, on May 8, 2023, 9.a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and May 9, 2023, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This workshop prepares you to write persuasive applications for postdoc positions in Germany and to act convincingly in academic job interviews. You will deepen your understanding of how to present your research profile and academic goals, and how to demonstrate that you match the position.

Aspects covered include:

  • What are the relevant job profiles for postdocs on the German academic labour market? Which differences do you need to consider when you apply for them?
  • What is a useful context for your next postdoc position?
  • Differences and commonalities of postdoc applications compared to other kinds of applications (for doctoral positions; for professorships; outside academia)
  • How to read the job advertisement for postdoc positions
  • What to do beyond a careful reading of the job advertisement
  • How to write a persuasive cover letter
  • How to tailor your CV to the specific position
  • How to prepare the job interview
  • How to communicate in the interview
  • How to prepare your next steps

In addition, there is room for your individual questions.

The workshop consists of input from the trainer, individual exercises and, importantly, the opportunity to exchange questions, experiences and ideas in group discussions; in addition, we will simulate or roleplay certain challenges and situations.

If possible, please bring with you a suitable job advertisement, or information about a suitable postdoc position.

This workshop is open to doctoral researchers and postdocs at KIT who are KHYS members.

The workshop will be held in English and run for two days, on May 8, 2023, 9.a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and May 9, 2023, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
