You use LLMs as a work tool and have developed prompts that really work? Then share your experiences in the KHYS PROMPT GALLERY!
 
In May we will exhibit proven use cases of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the KHYS building as a multi day poster gallery. The goal is to give early career researchers at the KIT new impulses for AI use and to encourage active experimentation in everyday work.
 
For this exhibition we are looking for contributions from you: tried and tested use cases of LLMs, shown via the associated prompts or instructions for task specific chatbots. Prompts and chatbots from all of your work contexts are welcome – research, administration, teaching, you name it. It does not matter whether your prompt eases a tiny manual step or supports a complex workflow. The aim is to make a wide range of application ideas visible.
Here you have the chance to demonstrate how professional and creative LLM use can look and to help your peers redesign their own daily work.
If you want to contribute, the first step would be to complete a brief online submission form. There, you can submit your prompt (together with some contextual information)*:

We collect proposals until March 30 (12 pm), 2026.
 
If you’re invited to showcase your LLM use, we will get in touch with you in the first week of April. We will then ask you to provide some more information for the final poster (probably due by April 12). Also, it would be great if you were willing to participate in the opening event of the gallery. (The vernissage is currently scheduled for May 5th).
 
We also want to assure you that we will keep your further involvement in producing the exhibition materials to a minimum. The posters will, of course, be designed and printed by us.

Research data are the basis and result of scientific work. The basic principles of good research data management (RDM) and good scientific practice therefore include a systematic approach to the collection and, if necessary, subsequent use and evaluation of data, as well as to their storage and accessibility.
 
The course offers a concise introduction to the basics and aspects of research data management with the associated terms, most important models and processes and of course some helpful tools. A Q&A session is planned after the presentation, offering participants time to ask specific questions relating to their own RDM.
 
This event is open to doctoral researchers and postdocs at KIT who are KHYS members. If you are currently not yet a member of KHYS, you can register here.

Stressmanagement ist heutzutage eine wichtige Kompetenz, um gesund und ausgeglichen die vielfältigen beruflichen und privaten Aufgaben und Anforderungen zu bewältigen. Gerade im Wissenschaftsalltag sind die Anforderungen und Erwartungen besonders hoch. Vielleicht fühlen Sie sich manchmal erschöpft oder angespannt und möchten gelassener durch die Promotion oder die Postdoc-Phase und Ihr Forschungsprojekt gehen – oder wollen einfach nur potenziellen Stressbelastungen und ihren Auswirkungen vorbeugen. Um gestärkt durch den Wissenschaftsalltag zu gehen, sind neben fachlicher Expertise und hoher Motivation auch eine gewisse Stressresistenz, ein gutes Selbstmanagement und ein Gleichgewicht zwischen Anspannung und Entspannung wichtig. Schon kleine Veränderungen können viel bewegen, wie beispielsweise innere Ansprüche zu hinterfragen, Energieräuber zu identifizieren und die persönliche Motivation, Selbstwirksamkeit und Produktivität zu steigern. Dieser Workshop bietet Ihnen ein abwechslungsreiches Angebot aus Informationen, Selbstreflexionen und praktischen Übungen zur Entwicklung der persönlichen Stresskompetenz.

As Europe faces growing digital threats, cybersecurity has become essential for protecting economies and critical infrastructures. Academic careers are risky business: as a postdoc, you have to make wide-ranging decisions about how to develop your research and your career. This workshop will help you plan your next steps.
 
Through short impulses from the trainer, individual research and reflection, and group discussions, the workshop will deepen your understanding of both the conditions that shape academic careers in Germany and of the opportunities and challenges of international academic careers.

Permanent positions in academia: what they are and how to work towards them The postdoc phase in Germany: relevant positions, and their pros and cons Necessary achievements (publications, third-party funding and others): how to assess your situation How to develop your scientific profile and academic independence How to deal with the international dimension of research communities and academic careers How to network strategically What do you want to achieve, and how will you get there? As the central institution for early-career support, KHYS is the main contact point for advising prospective doctoral researchers at KIT. In a presentation, we will give you plenty of information on how to best profit from the doctoral research period (including information on research stays abroad and services offered at KIT). In addition, there will be two brief testimonials by more advanced fellow researchers. They will share their experiences with you concerning doing the PhD at KIT and will be happy to answer your questions. At the end of the English-language event, there will be time for some networking during a get-together involving snacks and drinks.

We would in particular like to welcome those who have recently started their doctorate – however, the event is open to all German and international KIT doctoral researchers.

The Welcome Event takes place four times a year.

The course advises young scientists on how to publish the hard-won results of their research and to plan an appropriate publication strategy for their early academic career. The course will begin by exploring why researchers in the sciences should publish their results. It will then guide participants through the processes involved in getting an article or paper published in an academic journal, including:
Reasons for publishing your work and some of the key factors you need to consider when getting started
Navigating the pre-submission stage, from planning your time to preparing supplementary material, information and metadata
The importance of review for quality control and the requirements of the review process
Relevant resources, platforms and social media that can help ensure you publish in an impactful way

However, given that employees in private enterprises often are required to both pursue different goals and work differently compared to employees in research institutions, scientists need to adopt different mindsets and competences for succeeding in a business environment. In addition to specialist professional knowledge, transferrable skills in the areas of management methods, leadership and communication are particularly required.
 
To give you a head start for a successful career entry in the private sector, this e-learning program provides initial insights into key competences specifically for the business context. A selection of short online courses examines a variety of relevant topics, taking examples from everyday business life as their starting point. Apart from conveying theoretical background information they offer practical advice and provide suggestions for exercises and self-reflexion. Competences acquired by working thouroughly on these e-learnings can also be helpful for similar tasks in other than industrial work contexts, of course.
 
We have three modules in our Short-Cuts to Industry Program: Management Methods - Leadership - Communication. Statistical Research Methods provides comprehensive, cross-disciplinary support for junior researchers who require a foundation or refresher in statistical methods. With a pre-programme diagnostic tool, signposted material and a modular format, the course supports researchers who want to evaluate and interpret statistics. It addresses the current statistics context, taking the interdisciplinary research environment into consideration.
 
The course includes the following modules:
 
Utilise statistics to enable and enhance your research Storytelling with data visualisation and exploratory analysis with descriptive statistics Probability distributions as approximating models of reality Sampling, estimation and generalisation of results Evidence-based statistical inference False positives? Projektmanagement ist eine Schlüsselkompetenz – sowohl für zukünftige Aufgaben außerhalb der Wissenschaft, als auch für den Arbeitsalltag von Forschenden. Projekte gelingen, wenn fachliches Können mit soliden Management- und Selbstführungskompetenzen kombiniert wird.
 
Dieser Workshop führt in die Grundlagen des Projektmanagements ein und richtet sich an Promovierende und Postdocs ohne Vorkenntnisse. Sie lernen, Projekte systematisch zu planen und durchzuführen – von SMART-Zielen über Ressourcen- und Risikoanalysen bis hin zu agilen und klassischen Ansätzen. Praxisbeispiele, Erfahrungsaustausch,Einblicke in Online-Tools und der Einbezug von KI in das Projektmanagement runden den Workshop ab.

In der Wissenschaft arbeiten viele Promovierende und Postdocs in interdisziplinären Projekten oder leiten kleinere Teams – oft ohne formale Führungsfunktion. Dennoch müssen sie Aufgaben koordinieren, Entscheidungen herbeiführen und Kolleg*innen motivieren, ohne auf klassische Weisungsbefugnisse zurückgreifen zu können. Diese Form der „lateralen Führung" ist anspruchsvoll: Sie erfordert Klarheit über die eigene Rolle, kommunikatives Geschick und die Fähigkeit, Einfluss auf Augenhöhe zu nehmen.

Publications of research results is the currency in modern science. It might not be your favourite occupation, but it is a decisive one, strongly determining your future research and career opportunities. In this course, you will be introduced to the process of writing a scientific paper. In order to deepen and apply this knowledge, you will also actually produce a manuscript based on your research data (and one that might serve as the foundation for a journal submission). Questions about other forms of text like conference papers can also be discussed.

Researchers are responsible for ensuring that their own conduct complies with the standards of good research practice. The workshop will introduce basic issues of research integrity by addressing important guidelines of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and specific regulations of KIT for safeguarding good research practice – relevant for every early career researcher@KIT.
 
A) Basics of Responsible Conduct
Introduction: Research, ethical principles and professional ethos of a researcher Basic (inter-)national recommendations and regulations for safeguarding good research practice Research misconduct: Examples, elements of offense, reasons and consequences  
B) General Responsibilities
Quality management: research design, documentation/archiving Publication process, authorship and review of manuscripts GRP-Perspectives on the use of text- and picture-generative AI-applications in research Supervision: Expectations/duties/roles Organizational culture: Collaboration, communication, prevention and dealing with conflict Procedures in case of suspicion and relevant contact points  
C) Important Specific Responsibilities
Important prior to any data collection: Authorization or permission relevant research Possible topics (depending on participants’ disciplinary/research background): ‘Research on animals’, ‘Research on humans’ and/or ‘Surveys, interviews, data privacy and security issues in research’  
Throughout the various sections of the workshop the use of text- and image-generating AI will be discussed as an integral part.
 
Via dialogic inputs, discussion of case examples, single/group work and plenary discussion participants will have the opportunity to discuss and reflect their individual research practice and professional attitudes on being a researcher.

Young scientists like you often face an onslaught of daily challenges like teaching, research projects or administrative tasks. Given that academics are also often expected to be flexible and constantly available, it is only natural that you feel at times overwhelmed. Moreover, those many last-minute, short-term assignments often take precedence and can keep you distracted from more important, long-term goals and ambitions as well as your personal interests.
 
To keep your priorities in sight, you thus need a carefully thought-out time and self-management system. In this workshop, you will learn to set priorities and forge realistic plans in order to balance the demands of research and your personal life goals.
 
Workshop topics include:
Self-organization and self-motivation: increase productivity and efficiency Self-management: Defining personal goals and setting priorities, avoiding procrastination Planning: Establishing and/or optimizing daily and weekly planning; recognizing and using your individual performance curve Focus: Setting parameters for working effectively, maximizing efficiency Energy management, work-life balance, mental health.  
In the workshop, theoretical foundations and models are discussed and reflected in individual and group work. After the first day participants receive practical exercises to work on at home in case they are interested in enhancing deeper understanding of the topics and develop new personal strategies.

Writing a doctoral thesis is very challenging. But if you take a smart approach early on, you are likely to reach your objectives faster and achieve superior results. This workshop focuses on the critical elements for a successful doctoral journey: Which mindsets, tools, and processes make a real difference on the way to a PhD? We concentrate on three areas: The efficient organization of tasks and notes, the productive communication with supervisors and the research community, and the structured reading and writing of academic papers. In each area, we will reflect on effective mindsets, tools, and workflows. The goal is for each participant to take away at least three specific ideas on how to substantially improve their own approach.

Ganz gleich, in welcher Branche Sie sich nach Ihrer Promotion etablieren: Ohne Projektmanagement geht es in der Regel nicht. Ob als Freiberufler oder als leitende Mitarbeiterin in großen Konzernen: wesentliche Teile der Arbeit werden oftmals als Projekt geplant und durchgeführt. 
 
Mit besonderem Augenmerk auf die Bedürfnisse der Industrie führt der Workshop daher in die grundlegenden Werkzeuge und Techniken des Projektmanagements ein. Dabei wird immer wieder der Bezug zu verschiedenen Ansätzen und Standards hergestellt und auf Besonderheiten hingewiesen. Verschiedene Zertifizierungen haben daher ebenso ihren Platz im Workshop wie auch ein kurzer Blick auf agiles Projektmanagement. The first aim of the event is to take a closer look at the current status quo and generate an understanding of your present situation. Taking stock in this way will help you to take a focused approach to your life and career planning, create a basis for reflection for your longer-term professional and private decisions and work on your individual areas of development in a targeted manner.  
 
In this way, you can develop goals for your further career planning from a holistic perspective and derive the first specific steps.
