Workshop

Stress Management. Coping with Pressure in Challenging Times (two-day) [ONLINE-SEMINAR]

Wednesday, 07 December 2022, 9:00-12:30
online

The workshop will be held in English and run for two days, on December 7 and 8, 2022.

Academic life can often feel stressful. Your obligations in research and teaching typically come with time and performance pressure, the involvement in multiple projects at any one point in time, long-pending tasks and decisions and personal expectations regarding the quality of one’s work. It is thus unrealistic to be stress-free at all times but you can learn to cope with pressure in challenging times and develop skills to improve your personal stress resistance.

Stress management helps you to deal more effectively with stress in life by analysing the specific stressors and taking positive actions to minimize their effects. In this workshop you will gain information on stress in theory and practice. You will understand fundamental causes and consequences of stress, identify personal stress factors and develop strategies for a healthy balance between tension and relaxation.

Contents and focus

(1) Understanding stress: Causes and development of stress, stress reactions and consequences

(2) Recognising stress: Individual perception of stress and balance, awareness of stress factors

(3) Coping with stress: Relaxation techniques, reflection of personal attitudes and beliefs

(4) Preventing stress: Strategies for stress and time management

During this interactive workshop, participants will exchange experiences in small groups and in plenum. Other methods that will be used include tutorials on stress in theory and practice, action planning and transfer assurance as well as interventions for self-reflection.

This workshop is open to doctoral researchers and postdocs at KIT who are KHYS members.
