German Courses at STK for Doctoral Researchers and Postdocs
Are you interested in learning German? Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS) offers doctoral researchers and postdocs at KIT the opportunity to take part in the German courses at Studienkolleg. Please read the application process carefully before submitting your application.
Application for a Course Place
Doctoral researchers and postdocs who are KHYS members can apply for a place in a German course at STK through KHYS. Deadline is September 4, 2026.
If your application is successful, we will let you know by October, 7. You will receive a registration link for STK. You can then register, select your preferred course, and upload the required documents (e.g. your placement test).
Application for Refund by KHYS
Please note that eligibility for a refund depends on your status:
- If you are enrolled as a doctoral student (i.e. you have paid the administrative fee, you have a student e-mail adress), you do not need our refund as you are entitled to a free course anyway! (You will have to prove this by sending your proof of immatriculation "Immatrikulationsbescheinigung" to STK after your registration) So, your application in this case is simply for course participation.
- If you are not enrolled as a doctoral researcher (i.e. you are employed at KIT and have opted out of being enrolled at the Welcome Desk of the Students Office): You can apply for a course at Studienkolleg and apply for a refund of the course fee at KHYS.
- You are a postdoc: You can register for a course at Studienkolleg and apply for a refund of the course fee at KHYS.
Deadline for the application and/or applying for the refund program at KHYS is September, 4 2026.
Application Process
The process is as follows:
- Submit your application to KHYS by September 4, 2026. Check whether you need a KHYS refund.
- KHYS reviews all applications.
- Applicants are informed of the outcome by October 7, 2026 (course place and refund)
- Successful applicants receive a registration link for STK.
- Applicants register with STK, select a course, and upload the result of the placement test.
- Participants attend the course and complete the final examination.
- After the course, KHYS will request the documents required to process the refund
- The refund will only be granted to eligible participants who have passed the final examination.
