This introductory workshop on research funding provides an overview of the German and European research funding landscape. It focuses on funding opportunities available from the early to the advanced postdoctoral stage and highlights the differences of selected programs (EU programs within the framework of Horizon Europe, such as MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships and ERC Starting Grants, are also covered). Practice scenarios for different research settings help to understand how to select and approach individual funding programs.

By participating in this workshop, you will be better equipped to

• recognize the opportunities and challenges associated with external research funding,
• understand the differences between funding programs,
• understand what makes a fundable research project,
• identify funding opportunities for different research settings and make decisions according to which funding opportunity suits you best
• build a research grant track record.

This compact workshop employs theory input, plenary discussions, individual and small group work as well as expert advice. Please plan an additional 1.5 hours for pre-workshop activities.

Please note: All contents addressed in the compact workshop “Navigating the German and European Research Funding Landscape” are also included in the more extended workshop “How to Advance Your Career in Research and get Funded”. To avoid redundancies, we recommend choosing either one or the other of these courses.

Eligibility: This event is hosted by the KHYS Postdoc Office. Postdocs (who are members of KHYS) will therefore have priority for attending. Doctoral researchers, however, can still register and will be offered a spot if not all places are taken.
