Career Planning in Challenging Times (Two-day) [Online Workshop]
The event will be held in English and run for two days, on November 9 and 10, 2026.
Relevance of the Topic
Career decisions have become more complex due to economic uncertainty, technological change, and increasing competition.
Even for academics with high-quality degrees, the situation on the labor market is becoming increasingly difficult. Global events are affecting the economic situation in Germany; and digitalization is leading to a changing demand for tasks based on writing, research, and creativity.
Traditional advice that until recently led to career success has now become obsolete: most graduates will need to adapt their strategy and mindset to the changing situation.
Objectives
In this workshop, you will clarify your professional competence profile, recognize transferable academic skills, and explore suitable career paths. You will learn to present your profile convincingly and develop a structured, informed career strategy.
Content
- Overview of job markets: Academia, private and public sectors
- Career fields related to research, science communication, management, R&D, and technology transfer
- Profile analysis: core competencies, future skills, career biography, values
- Matching skills with career options and defining realistic goals
- Application strategies, networking, and proactive job search
- Insights into current labor market trends
Methods
The online sessions will focus entirely on practical work - tasks, exercises, and reflections on profile and career-related questions, conducted individually and in groups, including feedback.
