How does the selection process for the LGF Completion Scholarships work?
After the formal check at KHYS, applications for the 2026 completion scholarship program will be forwarded to the Scholarship Awards Committee (LGF), which will decide on the applications at its meeting in mid-November 2025. You will be notified of the outcome in writing. Please refrain from making inquiries in the meantime.
What is the composition of the selection committee that decides on the applications?
The Scholarships Awards Committee (LGF) is usually chaired by the Vice President Academic Affairs of KIT, Prof. Dr. Oliver Kraft, or alternatively the Vice Provost Early Career Researchers, Prof. Dr. Stefan Hinz. In accordance with the statutes of KIT on the LGFG (§11), five university lecturers, the spokesperson of the Equal Opportunities Officer and two academic or research assistants are also members of the committee.
How likely is it that I will be granted a scholarship?
This question cannot be answered in advance as it depends on the number and quality of applications.
Is there an age limit?
No.
Do I have to be accepted as a doctoral researcher at a KIT department if I participarte in the LGF completion scholarship program?
According to § 2 (1) of the Act on Graduate Funding from the State (LGFG), the ▶ Acceptance as a doctoral researcher is a prerequisite for funding. Without acceptance at a KIT department, no funding is possible.
Do I have to be enrolled as a doctoral candidate at KIT at the start of the LGF scholarship?
Enrollment as a doctoral student is no requirement to apply for an LGF scholarship or receive funding. However, during the funding period with the LGF Completion Scholarship, you are obliged to be enrolled in any case, as you are only allowed to work part-time to a limited extent during this period and an exemption from the enrollment requirement is therefore not possible. Please check this for your individual case and make sure to catch up on your ▶ enrollment if necessary.
