Storytelling-Principles for Scientists. Giving Your Arguments the Persuasive Edge (One-day) [Online Workshop]

Monday, 04 May 2026, 9:00-15:00
Online

The event will be held in English and run for one day, on May 4, 2026.

As a scientist, you are constantly competing for attention—whether you are presenting your research to the public, applying for funding, or positioning yourself for the next career step. In these moments, expertise alone rarely sets you apart. Your competitors are often just as capable, and facts or logic while essential, seldom carry the persuasive weight needed to truly engage an audience.

What makes the difference is how your message feels. Your arguments need a communicative fabric that sparks curiosity and creates emotional resonance. This is where storytelling becomes a powerful professional skill. Elements from fictional and non-fictional story-telling help you frame your ideas in ways that are memorable, relatable, and motivating – while remaining aligned with academic standards.

This workshop introduces core storytelling principles and illustrates how scientists can apply them to various communication situations.

We will also explore how Generative AI chatbots such as ChatGPT can support the transfer and application of storytelling principles to your communication tasks.
