KIT Internal Call: Friedrich und Elisabeth Boysen Dissertation Prize 2026

The non-profit Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation supports science and research, with a particular focus on environmental protection. Each year, the foundation honors an outstanding dissertation by a young researcher at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the field of environmental technology, with a particular focus on engineering solutions aimed at optimizing energy consumption and reducing pollutants and noise.

Selection Criteria

Eligible candidates are early-career researchers who have completed their doctorate at a KIT department between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025. The decisive factor is the date of the defense. Nominations for the award must be submitted by KIT professors. Self-nominations are not permitted.

Required Documents

The following documents can only be submitted digitally in one PDF file to KHYS in German or English (named as: Family name, first name_Boysen 2026):

  1. Nomination letter with a statement of reasons for the proposal
  2. Doctoral certificate (or a preliminary document as confirmation)
  3. Reviews
  4. Detailed curriculum vitae
  5. List of publications

Additionally, the following documents must be submitted separately in digital form

  • All ▶ statements of agreement for sharing the reviews the KIT internal selection committee (submitted as a single PDF, from both the supervisors and the candidate), named as Family name, first name_Agreement_Boysen 2026
  • Completed Excel sheet, named as Family name, first name_Submission_Boysen 2026

The award ceremony is organized by the KIT department of the respective winner.

Processing of Your Data

Within the selection process your data will be processed within KIT. Both the foundation and KIT will report on the outcome of the decision and publish related personal data. Further information can be found in the ▶ data protection information.

Amount of Funding

The prizewinner receives a one-time cash prize in the amount of EUR 5,000. Please note that the prize money may be subject to income tax and social security contributions. The Personnel Service (PSE) provides ▶ information on prize money (only available within the KIT network).
