Internationalization Program successfully concluded

Within the framework of the DAAD program IPID4all the Karlsruhe House of Young Scientists (KHYS) implemented the Internationalization Program “Young International Scientists at KIT” that was promoted by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The Internationalization Program ran from November 2014 to June 2019 and included a wide variety of measures. Through the program, KHYS was able to promote the internationalization of the doctoral research phase at KIT.

The focus of the program was on the promotion of mobility through three major funding measures:

  • The Aspirant Grant enabled KIT professors to invite foreign graduates who are interested in doing their doctorate at KIT to come here for a one-month stay. During the course of the program, 74 aspirants were funded.
  • The Internship Grant offered doctoral researchers at KIT the opportunity to supervise a master student from abroad during a three-month internship at KIT. Overall, 54 interns came to KIT.
  • The International Collaboration Package aimed at sustainably establishing mobility and networking measures for doctoral researchers by intensifying existing international collaboration. Thanks to the DAAD funding, KHYS was able to fund short-term stays of 104 doctoral researchers (incoming and outgoing) as well as 57 journeys of professors and postdocs (incoming and outgoing).

Some of the measures implemented within the Internationalization Program such as workshops, the refund program for German courses, and the Welcome Events will be continued as part of the portfolio of KHYS Measures. In addition, KHYS is currently evaluating if and in which form a continued funding can be set up for some of the above-mentioned mobility measures.
