KIT PhD Days 2018

INFORMATION — ORIENTATION — NETWORKING

The forth KIT PhD days took place on September 24 to 27, 2018. According to the theme INFORMATION — ORIENTATION — NETWORKING, various presentations and workshops on different topics were held. About 200 doctoral researchers at KIT and those interested in doing a PhD took the opportunity to get an overview of the diverse aspects of a doctorate or to get a deeper insight into topics like financing, publishing or career management.

As a part of opening ceremony there was a panel discussion on "good scientific practice". In a joint dialogue, personalities with expertise in this subject area offered insights into their work, presented especially important and noteworthy aspects of the topic, such as aspects on the basic principles of research, quality assurance and authorship, and answered questions from the audience. At the get-together that followed participants took the opportunity to get to know each other and further exchange their experiences in individual discussions.

During the welcome event participants found out how they can use the PhD-phase to develop themselves on personal and professional level. The target group of this event where PhD-students from Germany and abroad. Besides a general presentation about Services for PhDs at the KIT, two former PhD-students shared their experiences to give a personal impression about being a PhD-student at KIT. Moreover there was enough time, during a get-together, to expand their personal network and get to know each other.

In the workshop “Promotion – ja oder nein?” (Doing a PhD – yes or no?) students interested in doing a PhD could evaluate if a PhD suits to them and get some information about the specific requirements and conditions of a PhD at KIT.

As a result of the positive feedback, the next PhD days are already at a planning stage.
