Getting Started. The Path to a Successful Doctorate (two-day) [ONLINE-SEMINAR]

The workshop will be held in English and run for two days, on September 21 and 22, 2022.

 

The demands on doctoral researchers are high. Your first major research project does not only involve scientific challenges but also requires a high proficiency in planning and execution. Project management skills and competencies in time management and self-motivation are indispensable for productive progress. The Getting Started workshop will provide you with an excellent foundation in these domains. You will learn basic project planning techniques and apply them to your own research project. In addition, the workshop will introduce powerful methods for effective time management and self-motivation. Selecting methods that work well for you will be a focus as well as discussing how to sustainably transfer them to your own work context.

Project management:

  • Milestone planning
  • Agile strategies and techniques
  • Measuring progress

 

Efficient time management and self-motivation:

  • Setting priorities & defending boundaries
  • Pragmatism & perfectionism
  • Structuring your workday and week

 

Optional (depending on participants‘ interest):

  • Managing the relationship to your supervisor
  • Dealing with stress and crises during your doctorate
  • New tools for organizing research

 

This workshop is open to doctoral researchers at KIT who are KHYS members.

 

The workshop will be held in English and run for two days, on September 21 and 22, 2022.

 

Please note: The participants can benefit from an additional counselling appointment  on October 12, 2022.

 

Technical requirements: To participate in this workshop, you need a stable internet connection, a webcam and a microphone.
