Publications of research results is the currency in modern science. It might not be your favourite occupation, but it is a decisive one, strongly determining your future research and career opportunities. In this course, you will be introduced to the process of writing a scientific paper. In order to deepen and apply this knowledge, you will also actually produce a manuscript based on your research data (and one that might serve as the foundation for a journal submission). Questions about other forms of text like conference papers can also be discussed.

A-Z of scientific writing
Developing a clear main message Priority setting in the writing process Structure and logical flow of the text Create meaningful graphics Memorable introduction and abstract How to develop a daily writing routine Efficient communication with co-authors
Please note: Given that this is a hands-on online-workshop, you need some (analysed) data that can serve as the foundation for a journal article. Please also bring some scientific texts written by you (e.g. Bachelor or Master thesis, as well as any published or upcoming papers) to the workshop.

This event is open to doctoral researchers and postdocs at KIT who are KHYS members.

Agile Project Management (two-day) [ON-SITE WORKSHOP]
Workshop
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)
Bldg. 50.41, seminar room 145/146 …
Dr. Jan Schmidt

The event will be held in English and run for two days, on November 7 and 8, 2024.

Using tools and approaches from “traditional” project management it’s difficult to handle project environments that are changing and don’t allow to foresee what exactly the development or project requirements will be. First time developed and applied in IT agile project management nowadays is applied in many different fields that have to consider changes or rapid developments in their surroundings. This approach allows to flexibly respond and adapt to these changes.

The workshop agile project management (PM) introduces the participants to the basic approach and ideas (agile values and agile manifesto) as well as to tools and processes applied in agile PM. We will take a look at scrum as one of the agile frameworks and at IT-tools one can use in agile PM (Jira, Trello). The workshop will not only introduce theoretically but focus on applying tools to gain a better understanding - therefore participants are invited to actively contribute.

Target group: Doctoral Researchers and Postdocs with no or little knowledge in agile PM.

Basic knowledge of classic PM is assumed.

Please note: In addition to this workshop, KHYS offers other project management courses with different focal points, which may overlap in terms of content:
Getting Started. The Path to a Successful Doctorate Basics of Project Management Project Management in Science and Technology Projektmanagement in der Industrie
This event is open to doctoral researchers and postdocs at KIT who are KHYS members.

The event will be held in English and run for two days, on November 7 and 8, 2024.

Manuela Schnaubelt, Stress and Time Management Coach, Master of Business Administration, Systemic Coach

The event will be held in English and run for two days, on November 14 and 28, 2024.

Young scientists like you often face an onslaught of daily challenges like teaching, research projects or administrative tasks. Given that academics are also often expected to be flexible and constantly available, it is only natural that you feel at times overwhelmed. Moreover, those many last-minute, short-term assignments often take precedence and can keep you distracted from more important, long-term goals and ambitions as well as your personal interests. In order to keep your priorities in sight, you thus need a carefully thought-out time and self-management system. In this workshop, you will learn to set priorities and forge realistic plans in order to balance the demands of research and your personal life goals.

Workshop topics include:
Self-organization and self-motivation: increase productivity and efficiency Defining personal goals and setting priorities Establishing and/or optimizing daily and weekly planning Recognizing and using your individual performance curve Setting parameters for working effectively, maximizing time efficiency Energy management and work-life balance
In the workshop, theoretical foundations and models are discussed and reflected in individual and group work. After the first day participants receive activities to work on at home in case they are interested in enhancing deeper understanding of the topics.

If you need guidance beyond the workshop on personal challenges or conflict situations, you can contact the following advisory offices: https://www.khys.kit.edu/english/advisory-offices.php

NEUER TERMIN: Grundlagen der Führung in der Wissenschaft (zweitägig) [PRÄSENZ WORKSHOP]
Workshop
Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT)
Geb. 30.95 (Audimax), Seminarraum A+B (1.OG)
Ute Thomasky , Training – Coaching – Supervision – Therapie

November 2024.

Autoren- und Urheberrecht. Was Sie als Nachwuchsforschende wissen sollten [ONLINE INFORMATIONSVERANSTALTUNG mit Q&A]
Informationsveranstaltung
Online
