Workshop

Ideas on demand. An introduction to creative thinking for scientists

Wednesday, 30 January 2019, 9:00-17:00
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
Bldg. 30.95, Seminar room A+B

Description

For scientists, analytical reasoning is generally considered to be the hallmark of science. Yet, in any research project, there will be points at which logic and methodical rigour are not sufficient to solve research-related challenges. Rather, successfully completing tasks such as identifying an original research question, generating a hypothesis for a puzzling phenomenon or finding a solution to a daunting practical problem also require the ability generate novel ideas. To enable scientists to deliberately create new ideas when needed, this workshop introduces important strategies facilitating creative thinking.

Benefits

This workshop provides scientists with the opportunity:

  • to learn about central insights from research on creativity
  • to practice techniques for purposefully generating novel ideas
  • to generate a first set of ideas for solving research-related problems of their own.

Further Information:

  • This workshop does not provide an introduction to or any other business-focused innovation methodology. (However, the techniques for generating ideas introduced in this workshop can be applied outside science as well.)
  • This workshop is a pilot project by the KHYS to expand its range of support measures for young scientists at KIT. We would therefore particularly appreciate your participation in accompanying evaluation measures.

This workshop is open to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers at KIT who are KHYS members.

The workshop will be held in English.

Costs/ Payment
For KHYS members this workshop is free of charge.
